The European commission has announced EU investments in hydrogen technologies of up to of EUR 470 billion by 2050 and northern Sweden is emerging as a prime destination for hydrogen-related investments. The region’s surplus green energy, coupled with its commitment to sustainability, positions it as a future hub for hydrogen production and development. Hydrogen aligns with the region’s green agenda as it is recognised for its versatility and potential future role in the transition to cleaner energy systems. The prospects for utilising renewable electricity to produce clean hydrogen at competitive costs are already attracting investments across various sectors, including transportation and industry. Hydrogen is also an enabler for producing green and fossil-free steel, sustainable fuels, and fossil free fertilizers.
