Vattenfall supports sustainable industrial production

The Swedish energy company Vattenfall encourage suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of materials production, such as, steel, cement and carbon fiber.

Vattenfall has written a letter of support for the development of carbon fiber with low environmental impact, especially for establishing carbon fiber production in northern Sweden. They expect that the demand of green carbon fiber will increase in the near future. They have also noticed the imbalance between demand and production in Europe, which might become an argument in terms of availability, cost and sustainability. Vattenfall is one of the largest in offshore wind power in Europe.

Vattenfall support the establishment of a carbon fiber factory in Northern Sweden:

  • The carbon footprint during the material and production phase is too high and carbon fiber production using green energy is essential to fulfil LCA considerations.
  • Vattenfall encourage supplier efforts to improve the enviromental performance of carbon fiber
  • Vattenfall would be interested to consider R&D partnerships for developing processes and supply chains for sustainable carbon fiber.
