Investment opportunities / Uncategorized / Legendary investor backs the digital construction company Lundqvist Trävaru
Lundqvist Trävaru was founded in 1936 by the grandfather of the current co-owner, Jens Lundqvist. Towards the end of the 1990s, Jens’ father developed a new standard for construction, in which modules resembling a Lego-system, made construction more efficient. The system has now found its way into the digital world, through a digital 3D-tool where buildings and construction services can be ordered online.
Samuel Holmström, CEO, explains:
– Both Jens and I were computer nerds when we were young, and as our careers kicked off we were both jealous of our friends who worked for IT-companies in Stockholm. So, when I joined the company, Jens and I started to talk about how we could make Lundqvist Trävaru more digital. We then quickly realized that there was enormous potential in the company, not the least because of the modular system that was already in place.
The interface and the system are available on the company’s homepage and works like a 3D-configurator, where the customer can easily build the house they want, pretty much like the classic computer game Sims. There are options to decide where windows should be located and what materials should be used, among other things. The customer can also order professional assembly of the building online, which makes the process smooth and easy.
– Our system is really efficient for both our customers and ourselves. The customers can design what they want, and since everything is digital, each order automatically gives Lundqvist Trävaru a list of all the components needed for the specific construction, says Jens Lundqvist.
Samuel continues:
– I would say that what we developed so far really hits the very nerve of what is needed in the rather conservative construction industry. The numbers speak for themselves. When we started in 2010, our sales were 11 million SEK, and this year we estimate it will be around 106 million SEK.
The next step for Lundqvist Trävaru is to continue developing their digital tool and expand their business even further. For that purpose, they have taken in Staffan Persson, a legendary investor, as a business partner. The journey towards including him in the company started in 2019, as they came in contact with Invest in Norrbotten, who helped them to develop an investment memorandum. Not long after, they meet with Staffan Persson, who is originally also from Piteå.
– Before we met with Staffan, we had already been in contact with other representatives from investment companies. But getting a new business partner is a bit like dating, sometimes it clicks and sometimes it does not. With Staffan, it felt right all the way from the very first chat, says Samuel.
Jens continues:
– Our system is already used by a company in the US, and a lot of Norwegians are our customers at the moment. But our aim is to expand even further and create the next generation of digital systems for the construction industry. We want to offer a service where we can sell constructions online without having to take unnecessary time from our customers, and with Staffan onboard we are in a very good position to reach our goals.
